America the Illiterate posted by Chris Hedges via cyd, 2016-09-05 20:04:27 We live in two Americas. One America, now the minority, functions in a print-based, literate world. It can cope with complexity and has the intellectual tools to separate illusion from truth. The other America, which constitutes the majority, exists in a non-reality-based belief system. This America, dependent on skillfully manipulated images for information, has severed itself from the literate, print-based culture. It cannot differentiate between lies and truth. It is informed by simplistic, childish narratives and clichés. It is thrown into confusion by ambiguity, nuance and self-reflection. This divide, more than race, class or gender, more than rural or urban, believer or nonbeliever, red state or blue state, has split the country into radically distinct, unbridgeable and antagonistic entities. Pathology Incorporated: The Facade Of American Democracy posted by Nozomi Hayase via jaxie, 2016-09-04 21:28:23 With the rigged Democratic presidential nomination behind us, the US election reality show continues. The mass media is creating sensations around what has become a national embarrassment with this contest of the lesser of the two crazies. On the one hand we have Donald Trump, depicted as a quintessential narcissist and on the other, Hillary Clinton who is often portrayed as a sociopath. Hype is created by putting these labels on the candidates, pitting one personality disorder against the other. (full story) prose / international
Malcolm Turnbull now wishes to follow America's lead in sordid, criminal enterprises posted by darcy, 2016-09-02 03:10:56 In the wake of the USA flouting evermore international and domestic laws, for instance, gone are the excuses formerly used to assassinate foreign leaders, euphemistically once called ‘regime change,’ which of course is an illegality in and of itself under international law and the transparent 'humanitarian' military invasions of the past; we now witness overt military invasions of Syria by Turkey and the USA; hearken back to the criminal invasion/bombing of Libya under the pretext of the R2P ‘corporate oil interests’ and also the blatant theft of Gaddafi’s vast gold and other monetary wealth for large international banks and the use of fledgling ISIS proxy fighters to finally viciously murder Gaddafi when NATO bombs failed. Why bother with excuses State crime has been naturalised today and so the world follows suit as the people have failed to uphold moral imperatives and civilised LAW. Australians About To Learn a Bitter Lesson Regarding UN-representative Useless Governments posted by stacey, 2016-09-01 23:48:01 It’s already evident, no sooner than the 45th parliament began the conservatives blew it by not ensuring their minimal numbers were on the floor. It allowed for the opposition to make a point at the expense of the nation, bickering and adversarial tactics will only continue as the nation goes backwards at speed. One Good Outcome of the US Presidential Election posted by claire, 2016-08-30 01:43:17 Don’t kid yourselves readers, the global elite that appear as the Bilderberg group, CFR, Trilateral Commission and other invitation only organisations, never allow anyone not ‘chosen’ to become president of THEIR nation, America. Numerous contributors to this site have stated it plainly supplying numerous accounts of how these groups, which comprise the global elite, have hijacked all western governments but particularly the American, the jewel in the crown. Voting and the election race is a charade, as the outcome has been predetermined. And so it will be this time around, Hillary was promised the presidency at the Virginia Bilderberg meeting some years back, when she was instructed to step aside and allow Obama to run. The Illegal War on Syria: The Western Media vs. Truth/Reality posted by Ian Sinclair via jane, 2016-08-28 23:48:04 “The sinister fact about literary censorship in England is that it is largely voluntary”, George Orwell noted in his censored preface to his 1945 book Animal Farm. “Unpopular ideas can be silenced, and inconvenient facts kept dark, without the need for any official ban”. Orwell went onto explain that “at any given moment there is an orthodoxy, a body of ideas which it is assumed that all right-thinking people will accept without question. It is not exactly forbidden to say this, that or the other, but it is ‘not done’ to say it”. (full story) prose / international
Smartphones - far too smart for the majority of users posted by vax, 2016-08-28 00:39:48 Indeed, the astounding features of smartphones are a juicy target for those interested in monitoring and surveillance, and I would add that not only government agencies (NSA) are involved in this type of hacking, private corporate hackers have exploited smartphones to rake in $zillions by selling their mal/spyware to any large entity that wishes to spy on its population. How Western Media Misreports and Propagandises the Illegal US War on Syria posted by Gareth Porter via jill, 2016-08-27 00:07:02 Coverage of the breakdown of the partial ceasefire in Syria illustrated the main way corporate news media distort public understanding of a major foreign policy story. The problem is not that the key events in the story are entirely unreported, but that they were downplayed and quickly forgotten in the media’s embrace of themes with which they were more comfortable. The Broken Chessboard: Brzezinski Gives Up on Empire posted by Mike Whitney via james, 2016-08-25 23:02:14 Zbigniew Brzezinski, academic, author, adviser to US governments, implementer of proxy fighters and more recently, recantor, seems to have finally realised that ‘power’ is a fluid ‘substance’, something French academic Michel Foucault was acutely aware of. Power is never possessed for long, no sooner do those that imagine they possess it, watch in horror as power begins to trickle or rush away, as is happening to the USA as I write and has happened to every major empire in history. Brzezinski, would have done well to analyse historical empires prior to making a fool of himself in the form of asserting such idiocies as the USA is the world’s sole superpower and as such should embark on a ruining plan for global hegemony -- which I would emphasise, is the accelerating force in America’s road to ruin, not only as the ‘world’s sole superpower,’ but also as a viable, independent nation.

Backed By US, Turkey Illegally Invades Democratic Sovereign Syria posted by Brandon Turbeville via jess, 2016-08-25 01:18:54 On Wednesday morning, Turkey abruptly launched an all-out military assault on Syria, sending in tanks, troops, and engaging in airstrikes, in concert with airstrikes from the United States, to the northern portions of Syria near the Turkey-Syria border under the guise of combatting ISIS forces. At this time, the military operations seem focused around Jarablus. (full story) prose / international
US Illegally Invades Syria And Warns Russia, which is Legally Assisting a Sovereign Nation posted by Eric Zuesse via shirl, 2016-08-23 23:55:30 On Monday, August 22nd, the United States government — which demands the overthrow of the internationally-recognized-as-legal government of Syria — officially announced that America’s military forces in Syria will continue to occupy Syrian land, no matter what the Syrian government says, and will shoot down any Syrian planes that fly over U.S. forces there. Media Induced Illegal Wars posted by John Pilger via jess, 2016-08-23 23:14:55 The exoneration of a man accused of the worst crimes of genocide made no headlines in the West. Neither the BBC nor CNN covered it. The Guardian allowed a brief commentary. Such a rare official admission was buried or suppressed, unlike the vile, untrue, media saturation of false accusations that US/NATO victim Slobodan Milosevic received when he was targeted for removal, falsely accused of heinous crimes and placed on trial in a politicised court by US/NATO forces. Milosevic latter died in prison before his name was cleared. Admitting fault by the West would explain too much about how the rulers of the world rule. Milosevic's fate today constitutes not only a war crime committed by the West but his arrest and trial breaches numerous international laws regarding the sovereignty of States/nations and highlights the gross illegality of 'regime change'. Growing Up Insane in America posted by William Hawes via shirl, 2016-08-21 01:17:44 The current state of American politics must make us question whether any of our leaders in the Beltway can be described as “grown-ups”, i.e., fully mature and sane individuals. Between the endless war crimes, corporate corruption, lobbyists who bribe congressmen and write legislation, and the ineptitude of federal entities who are supposed to protect our health such as the FDA, EPA, and CDC, it would appear that leaders in all three branches of government, as well as the leaders of the corporate world, are either insane or suffer from various psychological disorders as well as suffering from a type of collective dementia/delusion, the common denominator of which complaints, being narcissistic self-focus and an utter lack of empathy for the other, or respect for the earth, environment.

“Mission Accomplished” -- Americans Live in a Dreamworld posted by bruce, 2016-08-20 21:33:14 Which mission was that, anyone could ask, as all America has accomplished is one disaster after another since it began its criminal push to militarily control the world (fat chance)? Yet not one lying neocon war criminal has been held to account for the needless millions of innocent war dead -- give the world a break, psychopathic dreamboats! (full story) prose / international
