Female employees of U.S. legal firm instructed to close their legs
by jaxie Monday, Dec 2 2013, 12:19pm
international / prose / post

The simple response to this outrageous hyper-personal assault is to abandon wearing knickers altogether and engage in Sharon Stone leg cross-overs; but alas, we are in corporate controlled America where unchecked corporate power is now invading women’s crotches and cleavages -- how does it go again? “Only in America!”

Should we expect less after the ONGOING progression of totalitarian social control policies and laws recently instituted in America? Where does a genitally groped society go? To hell via arch-conservatism and misogyny, is the short answer.

Of course the obvious remedy for this insanity and these hyper-intrusions on personal privacy is to take a stand and draw a line. American women have always been a power to contend with, unfortunately the same cannot be said for wimpish, cowardly American males -- take another good look at that poof Barack Obama and wife Michelle.

If and when American women decide, the country will return to a representative democracy and all eroded freedoms will be restored.

In a sense it’s good that women are under attack in this most absurd and sick way.

It is widely known that American males for all their posturing and bravado have no balls whatsoever; however, American women are another story -- we shall see.

Female lawyers told to stop giggling and close their legs
by Effie Mann

A US law firm has issued a notice to its female lawyers – yes, that’s female employees only – advising them how best to conduct themselves in the workplace.

Clifford Chance, who boasts “the highest global standards,” sent a 163-point memo to female associates requesting no giggling, squirming or arm waving. Legs must be closed when wearing a skirt, states the document, and cleavage is a big no-no too.

“No one heard Hillary the day she showed cleavage,” chides the document which is entitled Presentation Tips for Women. But that’s not all – the document also takes issue with the pitch of women’s voices, dedicating a couple of sections to the topic. “Your voice is higher than you hear,” the tip sheet warns. The solution? “Think Lauren Bacall, not Marilyn Monroe.”

It’s hard to believe this advice is condoned by a law firm of this scale. According to Business Week, the organisation has 3,400 legal advisers spread across 35 American-based offices, and last year took a whopping $1.9 billion in revenue.

“We have never been a very female-friendly firm, but this is beyond the pale,” an employee reportedly told legal website Above The Law.

“There they go, those giggling, squirming, provocatively-dressed female lawyers, getting hysterical again,” quipped Lawyers Weekly, who outed the memo online.

Sadly, though, the publication seems to offer the story up as a weekly oops-how-hilarious law anecdote, rather than an expose on the outrageous attitude to women in the legal profession.

Tragic.
