embrace the night

easy and soft
in its darkness

inviting
in its monochromatic
simplicity -
sea, sky and land
darken to a single tone

reflected moonlight
casts ghostly edges
on artificial structures,
night chases fakes,
pretenders, impostors
and exposes the disingenuous

the natural is very comfortable
at night
accepting repose and
yielding to its quiet
peace

a necessary break from
the harsh brittleness
of day

i have become a creature of
the night
rejected by day people and their
shattering existences,

so soft and easy
the night
gentle and enveloping
offering refuge from the sharp
cries and jagged edges of day

but it comes at a price
people cross roads
as i approach,
i am unaware of any change
in my physical attitude or bearing
which may frighten
but i am aware
of the increasing load
of inculcated fears
that day people carry

i offer myself
to the nocturnal
and keep my secrets
from the day

the night eventually transforms,
i am now difficult to discern or
separate from the evening

moving imperceptibly like
a phantasm
more ethereal than a ghost

black sky above black waters

the moon’s dancing
reflected light on the water
spits sparkles,
stars and diamonds
into the sky
