Mourning
by sol Friday, Nov 23 2012, 11:04am
international / poetry / post

shafts of light
annihilate night

did u hear
the faint sound
of someone crying,
could you detect a
distant scream,
did u hear a
muffled cry,
the drone of wailing
in the darkness of night?

i heard lost
love crying,
my heart
i heard the sob
of roses
mourning the dead

did u see the hand
that murdered the child
my eye,
did u sense
something moving
in the forest
my skin?

avenge the murdered children
my love
rid the world of the
evil beast

purge the sea, ground and air
of its presence
there is no place
in this universe
for any nation
that condones the killing
of children,
there is nothing more vile
in the eyes of creation

take me to the halls
of justice
my spleen
release the scales of law from
its bonds

draw the sword
of justice
my arm
and thrust the blade
into the heart
of the star-spangled
beast
drive it hard until
the beast expires,
twist the blade
until it moves no more

[then] take me out into the morning mist,
wash my hands
in the morning dew
purge my soul
in dawn's warm light

face me toward
the rising sun
my love
stand beside me
like a mountain
in its light
