Trump vs Turnbull
by darcy Thursday, Feb 2 2017, 7:19pm
international / prose / post

I recently wrote an article for this site regarding Australia’s inability to stand on its own two feet as a sovereign, independent, proud nation. Oz since colonial days has never really grown up as a nation, it has hung tenaciously onto Imperial apron-strings, first British then after WWII, American.

However, circumstances have sure changed with the election of Donald Trump as US president. This man is not a politician’s toe nail, he is a member of the elite billionaire club and a reality TV performer, which ‘qualifications’ may be suitable for a demagogue but not for a political leader. Imbecile Trump could renege on the deal to accept our refugees currently indefinitely detained on offshore islands, which have caused Australia much embarrassment and grief due to the inhumane treatment they receive. The problem had become so grievous to the serving government it struck a deal with former president Obama to take these poor souls off our hands, a sort of exchange was negotiated, Australia dumps it unwanted refugees on America and the US dumps it unwanted violent Latin American refugees on us. A great deal, as most of these Central American refugees want nothing to do with Oz.

However, Trump now aware of the ‘deal’ is spitting chips and has called the deal “dumb” and accused Oz of dumping its unwanted 'terrorists’ onto America. He is currently reviewing the details of the deal as I write. American news outlets have depicted the exchange between Oz PM Turnbull and president Trump as heated and to exacerbate things Trump tweeted his displeasure over the deal internationally. So now its international news, which would make it very difficult for Trump to back down, especially after all his rantings about eradicating terrorists from the face of the earth, notwithstanding most of these unwanted refugees are civilians desperately trying to survive.

Trump clearly is inward thinking and doesn’t seem to give two hoots about long standing alliances, which played a huge part in the original deal as it was made clear that Oz has supported America in all its illegal wars since and including Vietnam. So a little assistance was requested by Oz in repayment for slavishly participating in America’s illegal military adventures. Obama understood this, and agreed BUT Trump understands NOTHING of politics he has admitted as much himself, to Trump leadership is all about making deals, business style, but that is not how the world works, something he will soon discover.

Turnbull would be devastated if Trump reneged on the deal as more pressure would be placed where it belongs, on Turnbull’s shoulders. The opposition would like nothing more than Turnbull being forced to deal with OUR refugee problem in a HUMANITARIAN way, as the current approach has been condemned by the UN and other nations for very good reason, its barbaric, soul-destroying and extremely cruel.

The issue is now international news and Oz is learning that infantilism which expresses itself as complying with ‘daddy America's' every illegal, and provocative to China, imperial wish, does not earn respect.

Of course the solution is obvious, grow up Australia and deal with reality instead of clinging pathologically to the apron-strings of the world’s leading civilian killing, invasive, terrorist state, America. If tiny Singapore is able to maintain its sovereignty and independence then surely Oz should also be able; well yes, but NOT with the current crop of kiddie Canberra politicians that only know how to kowtow and serve other nations not the Australian people or national best interest.

Every successful, well-adjusted adult accepts maturing and associated responsibilities as a matter of course but for those that fear growing up circumstances always provide the impetus. God forbid that Australia may be forced to stand on its own two feet in the international arena.

Nevertheless, Oz is vitally and strategically important today, a REAL statesman would have little trouble exploiting the situation to Australia’s great advantage, but that’s the problem isn’t it? Australia lacks politicians that know how to play international politics and exploit our advantages, which are many. What a sorry bunch of useless, infantile politicians the Australian people are burdened with today.
