Bosnian Muslim, Adnan Karabegovic, appeared before Serbian Magistrate, Jelena Popovic, on terrorist charges in the Melbourne Magistrates Court today. [Laugh now!] And they erroneously say there is no justice or humour in the Oz legal system!
Report from SBS follows:
Man linked with terror plot fronts court
A Melbourne man accused of collecting documents linked with the preparation of a terrorist act has not applied for bail in a brief court appearance.
Adnan Karabegovic, 23, of Officer, was on Thursday charged with four counts of collecting documents connected with the preparation for the engagement of a person in or assistance in a terrorist act.
He appeared briefly in Melbourne Magistrates Court and was remanded in custody to appear again on December 6.
Karabegovic refused to stand when asked by Magistrate Jelena Popovic at the end of the hearing.
"It does not bother me in the least," Ms Popovic said when Karabegovic refused to stand.
She asked him if he understood what was happening in court and he said he did.
Lawyer Marcus Dempsey said Karabegovic had been living in Australia since he was seven.
Karabegovic spent the day in hospital after complaining of abdominal pain.
He was arrested on Wednesday following a series of raids on 11 properties that allegedly uncovered guns and extremist propaganda.
Police say officers seized a number of items from the properties, including a USB memory stick, computer equipment, registered firearms and fake firearms.
A 12th property in the city's east was raided on Thursday.
The maximum penalty for the offence is 15 years' jail.
