Greenwald for reasons known only to him, is attempting to sensationalise old news. It is also worth noting that Ed Snowden, in the broad sense, has not revealed anything truly new to date, like we didn’t know that spy agencies were conducting massive data vacuuming 30 years ago; the program went under various names, ‘echelon, carnivore, etc’ the latest enhanced version has been named, ‘prism,’ but the essential program has remained the same throughout, and for people that live under a rock, it’s called PAN or global SURVEILLANCE!

Context is critical when dealing with any form of information and Greenwald habitually fails to contextualise or adequately ‘background’ his stories.

So what’s the deal this time? Using the Internet to subvert, disrupt and manipulate digital information and public discourse, wow, we didn’t know that either, Glenn!

Now for some Internet background facts. The Internet has been a battlefield almost since its inception, but to be fair, a very brief period existed in its very early history when it was only a benign medium of communication, however, that period was very short-lived. Engineers, programmers and hackers owned the wire in those days. Governments were very slow to catch on and it was only after the childish hacks of NASA (Assange) and other State institutions/organisations that governments became aware that the Internet was a space that required ‘management;’ from that time forward it has been targeted for take-over, big yawn, Glenn -- there is nothing new under Greenwald’s sun; perhaps a little less time in gay steam rooms and saunas and more in the real world doing background checks and you wouldn’t be duped so easily -- Snowden still reeks of government agent; the effect of his ‘revelations’ has been to re-inforce government control and to increase fear and servitude in the population, thanks for all the help, Glenn!

I would contrast Manning at this stage, as his was a confrontational tactical manoeuvre that served to demonstrate that a single individual could compromise a criminally corrupt State and in that Manning was supremely successful -- his farcical trial compromises an entire administration, America will never live it down! Gender confusion aside, Manning is perhaps the most courageous person this century has known and every effort should be made to free him for the great service he has rendered to all humanity -- heros like Manning are rare indeed. Now compare Snowden who has released nothing essentially new while he hides and refuses to directly confront the ‘man’ -- for fuck’s sake Greenwald, Snowden publicly stated he had information that could seriously compromise the USA but refuses to release it! What does that suggest to you Glenn ‘lawyer’ Greenwald -- a little objectivity please.

As a matter of INTEGRITY and CHARACTER, Manning, Hammond, Swartz and others took on a corrupt State and SUCCEEDED in highlighting its PROFOUND hypocrisies, cruelty and injustices.

In conclusion I would compare a truly new concept (at the time) contained in a seminal paper that was anonymously posted to our parent site some years back -- since that paper was first published great gains and other advances have been made in strategic terms, in the fight against the nefarious forces that wish to enslave all humanity.
