The Vast Majority Died

People (entire societies/civilisations) have perished almost overnight in the past; nations today are suffering from a historically known and measurable syndrome/plague – it is characterised by social paralysis in the most urgent or threatening circumstances. We saw it clearly at work during the rise of the overtly criminal Nazi regime in Germany and we see again today in the US, but that is not to what the title alludes, though I wish it was; no, I refer to the many historical myths/legends of total annihilation that left the vast majority of human beings dead. Stories from pre-history refer to massive, beyond imagination cataclysms that destroyed almost all life on earth.

The geological record verifies these events in the earth’s crust; we refer to them today as ages of mass extinction, one such period is said to have eliminated 95% of all life on earth!
On each occasion the impact on the planet was global, humanity was severely affected, mass migrations and wars were common.
Various myths of floods and cities sinking beneath the waves are not legends of Atlantis but historical fact; today, with the assistance of satellites and special photography, a constructed land bridge between India and Sri Lanka is easily discernable from space. Lost cities referred to in Indian epics have been discovered today under the sea off the west coast of India -- it appears that the earth has undergone dramatic upheavals in the past while civilisations flourished. All these natural events were characterised by massive loss of life, some recorded (the flood and huge volcanic eruptions).
Doomsday commentators refer to runaway climate change as the most profound threat to humanity/world today, and they are not wrong but what they fail to mention is that these types of events have occurred numerous times before and the world continues, though with far less diversity and human beings!
I mention this as it is evident that no nation is willing to bite the bullet on climate change so catastrophe is inevitable.
Recently a truly huge ‘shale-oil’ deposit was discovered in South Australia equalling the original deposits of oil in Saudi Arabia. This particular deposit has easily extractable oil using the highly toxic fracking method, which unfortunately will be used as the demand on energy suppliers has resulted in very loose regulatory measures from governments, notwithstanding the allure of profits, which are estimated in the tens of trillions of dollars at today's values!
With trillions to be made and energy demand increasing, poor frail humanity will do everything in its power to release the carbon locked in that oil into the environment. This lemming-like pursuit will have dire consequences for all life on the planet but it’s full speed ahead on the suicide train to nowhere!
Of course it doesn’t have to end like this, but have YOU taken a good look at current events lately; criminals run rampant in the world’s financial and political capitals, US presidents draw up kill lists, innocent civilians are slaughtered almost on a daily basis, kidnapping and torture are tolerated as is indefinite detention, mass surveillance and partial kangaroo court trials of moral and conscience driven persons placed on trial by the criminals they have rightfully exposed! All this and more I have not mentioned, while the entire global population sits back with their thumbs up their arses and passively watches -- look how your country is killing YOU!
But remain calm sit back with your thumbs up your arses and ride the lemming tide to oblivion!
