US Risking World War III in Syria
Joe Lauria via jess, Saturday, Feb 6 2016, 11:10am
Defense Secretary Ashton Carter last October said in a little noticed comment that the United States was ready to take “direct action on the ground” in Syria. Vice President Joe Biden said in Istanbul last month that if peace talks in Geneva failed, the United States was prepared for a “military solution” in that country.

Assange and False Hope
baz, Friday, Feb 5 2016, 10:25pm
Assange supporters have been buoyed recently by a UN declaration that he has been ‘arbitrarily detained.’ Indeed he has, however, what chance does Assange have of gaining his freedom? Little if reality is assessed. (story and 1 image)

Oz Bankers: culture of sex, drugs and rock & roll, revealed
Jonathan Shapiro via judy, Friday, Feb 5 2016, 6:26am
A $30 million unfair dismissal case pursued by a former trader of ANZ Bank has revealed a sordid banker culture that warrants a government investigation, especially after a clearly political Royal Commission into Trade Unions. However, (proven) useless PM Malcolm Turnbull, a former Goldman Sachs employee and banker, would be loath to pursue such an action against his elite brethren. And so the offended and long-suffering Australian people must make the decision for him at the next federal election. Turnbull's policy to increase a regressive, punitive GST by 50% should be his and his elite-serving conservative party's downfall as the rot that infects the entire corrupt corporate/banker sector now becomes public knowledge. So what are you going to do, Malcolm -- nothing, no doubt? (story and 1 image)

In the Halls of Criminal and Deluded Washington
Philip Giraldi via carol, Thursday, Feb 4 2016, 9:39pm
Tulsi Gabbard is one brave Congresswoman. She has challenged her party and the president saying that it’s time for Washington to halt its “illegal, counter-productive war to overthrow the Syrian government of Assad. I don’t think Assad should be removed. If Assad is removed and overthrown, ISIS, al Qaeda, Al Nustra, these Islamic extremist groups will walk straight in and take over all of Syria … they will be even stronger.”

The Gargantuan Media Blind Spot
james, Wednesday, Feb 3 2016, 9:02pm
The international refugee crisis has been saturating the news for some time yet the cause -- Washington’s grossly illegal regime change wars and CIA supported proxy fighting groups -- are never mentioned as the obvious cause. Now note that the vast, if not all refugees issue from regions and nations the US and its lackey NATO partner have destabilised, FACT! So how is it possible that western news outlets overlook the CAUSE of the problem and delay the simple cure?

Writing – A tip for Professionals
jude, Tuesday, Feb 2 2016, 11:37pm
The primary, effective message that bypasses the conscious mind is transmitted in the secondary layer of the discourse or SUBTEXT, for instance, if one wishes to trash the two-party political charade, it does not serve the writer well to focus the reader on that issue DIRECTLY via long-winded explanations/rhetoric or didactic means. Rather, direct the reader’s focus on the ‘other,’ independents for example, and then indirectly praise how that ‘other’ represents the true wishes of the people and not special interests, which interests both major political parties serve. Oz Conservative Party -- cut corporate tax and make up Shortfall by taxing Public (GST)
darcy, Tuesday, Feb 2 2016, 10:03pm
Well, its no secret that ‘un-exciting’ PM Turnbull continues in the Abbott tradition, all lies, secrecy and sleight of hand -- essentially, all the way with the elite and slug the public with a 50% increase on a tax on everything to compensate for the revenue loss of corporate tax cuts, which group I might add are professional tax dodgers. "Ignorance is Power"
Georgina Kenyon via james, Monday, Feb 1 2016, 9:07pm
While the title indicates a classic Orwellian inversion it also states an unfortunate fact today. Ignorance is now a potentially lethal plague that threatens all humanity. To pre-empt the import of the following story, the title should read, 'Ignorance is Power for those who know.' The following piece is highly recommended to all our readers and should be disseminated widely in order to combat the dire threat that confronts us all.

US Relies Heavily on Saudis to Support Syrian 'Rebels'
Mark Mazzetti and Matt Apuzzo via jane, Monday, Feb 1 2016, 9:16am
WASHINGTON — When President Obama secretly authorized the Central Intelligence Agency to begin arming Syria’s embattled rebels in 2013, the spy agency knew it would have a willing partner to help pay for the covert operation. It was the same partner the C.I.A. has relied on for decades for money and discretion in far-off conflicts: the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. (story and 1 image)

GM Mosquitoes Linked to Zika Outbreak
Claire Bernish via gail, Friday, Jan 29 2016, 10:40pm
The World Health Organization announced it will convene an Emergency Committee under International Health Regulations on Monday, February 1, concerning the Zika virus ‘explosive’ spread throughout the Americas. The virus reportedly has the potential to reach pandemic proportions — possibly around the globe. But understandingwhy this outbreak happened is vital to curbing it. As the WHO statement said: (story and 3 images)

Business is very simple -- benefits must be proportionate to all parties involved
jess, Thursday, Jan 28 2016, 10:04pm
Today there exist two major competing interests in global business affairs, the Anglo-Zionist mercantile model, which is maintained and propelled by the military/police and the Eurasian model which needs no such costly enforcement as everybody wins.

Confirmed: Turnbull is a Lying, Vacuous Narcissist Devoid of Ability and Conviction
baz, Wednesday, Jan 27 2016, 2:53am
Turnbull has recently proven the only thing he is really interested in is himself and his obsessive desire to become Australia’s PM, as though that is an end in itself. Turnbull has been given ample time to prove himself, which he did. He not only hasn’t repealed any of the harsh social policies that Abbott inflicted on the struggling Australian people -- while of course favouring the corporate/banker elite – he failed to make his mark in the international arena. However, prior to continuing I would simply state that government revenue problems and the obvious lack of funds are the result of the corporate sector not paying their due – the simple, fair and Australian rule is, ‘those that benefit most from the nation should return most to the nation, what is fairer than that? Those who can afford to pay should pay their due, which clearly is NOT occurring, as Turnbull, a former banker and lying lawyer, represents the interests of the UNREPRESENTATIVE minority elite and NOT the people. Syria and Iraq: The US “Military Solution,” Naturally!
Bill Van Auken via claire, Tuesday, Jan 26 2016, 6:36pm
Analysts are aware that the so-called ‘peace’ talks in Geneva were designed to allow western interventionist, regime change forces to re-group in the face of rapid gains by the Syrian al-Assad government legally assisted by Russia. Well, this (regroup) they have achieved and now threaten the usual military ‘solution,’ which everyone should know is no solution at all, as every nation the US has illegally invaded and bombed over the past fifteen years has been destroyed and left in ruins and chaos. So more of the same destabilisation -- which is now impacting Europe -- from ‘peace loving,' interventionist America, which is in fact hell bent on precipitating WWIII due, not least, to its insane neocon pursuit/agenda of global hegemony. The greatest threat to world peace is in fact America, one need only review its 'peace policies' and destructive actions over the past fifteen years to confirm that REALITY -- the US retains the dubious 'honour' of the world's leading civilian killing nation, which cost does not bother the lunatic neocons! Let’s say you lend your brother-in-law, Pauli, 5,000-bucks so he can get his fledgling construction business off-the-ground. Then, you find out a week later that ‘good-old Pauli’ has shot the wad playing the horses at Long-acres and buying cocktails for his loafer-friends at Matt’s Mad Dog tavern? Would you feel like you’d been ripped off?

The BIG Oil/Power SCAM
F. William Engdahl via cyd, Sunday, Jan 24 2016, 9:28am
If there is any single price of any commodity that determines the growth or slowdown of our economy, it is the price of crude oil. Too many things don’t calculate today in regard to the dramatic fall in the world oil price. In June 2014 major oil traded at $103 a barrel. With some experience following the geopolitics of oil and oil markets, I smell a big skunk. Let me share some things that for me don’t add up. (story and 2 images)

‘There’s no such thing as a free lunch’ – unless of course you are a member of the 1%
james, Saturday, Jan 23 2016, 8:43pm
Laissez faire economist Milton Friedman, who promulgated the notion that ‘free’ markets would save the world, popularised that phrase/slogan, and that’s all it is, a meaningless slogan, similar to, ‘there’s light at the end of the tunnel,’ which simplistic metaphor/slogan conned an entire nation.
