Forced to Vote for the Lesser of two Evils is not Democracy
by stacey Tuesday, May 17 2016, 11:54am
international / prose / post

Here we go again, candidates from the two major corporate owned and controlled parties are feeding the voting public simplistic emotive slogans. Xenophobic, parochial Australia is obsessed with ‘boat people’ thanks to the Murdoch press, though dumb Aussies fail to ask the price in tax-payer dollars ‘border protection’ policies are costing every Australian.

Take for example $45million to relocate 5 individuals to Cambodia, then ask yourself what it costs to build and maintain off-shore detention centres in order to prevent refugees landing on Oz soil and utilising local laws against harsh and inhumane treatment, and you’re looking at tens of millions for every off-shore ‘detention centre’. The impoverished nations that agree to house these fleeing refugees do so due to financial ‘incentives’, they agree simply because Australian tax-payers are footing the bill for EVERYTHING including ‘inducements’ to foreign, usually backward, governments to buy the right (bribery in a word) to transfer our problem to someone else – there are numerous more costs involved which amount to over HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS of dollars BUT Oz racism and xenophobia reign supreme and exploiting this irrational hysteria guarantees votes, though I’m sure if the public was fully aware of the costs they would prefer receiving the money in their pockets – the waste is enormous and politicians continue to exploit Australia’s irrational fear of a few refugees risking their lives to flee intolerable situations – it’s a sad indictment of the local culture, a disgrace actually, as the $millions wasted could be better spent, meanwhile ignorant Australians imagine they are better off denying a few refugees and suffering cut backs on essential services and social safety nets – you dumb Aussie fucks!

Both major parties are guilty of many more facile, transparent and boring methods of catching votes – notice how each party only pushes a few policies/slogans with very little if any outline of how these policies/promises are to be realised and at what cost. Inevitably, reneging on promises is now accepted by the masses that have only themselves to blame when cutbacks affect them, and so dies real democracy and living standards.

It is patently absurd that nations with populations exceeding hundreds of millions are faced with only a few candidates to choose from. You see, money is both the lubricator of the corrupt status quo and the inhibitor of real democracy, which if it existed would have a field of candidates that number in the hundreds, not two bloody bought puppets that guarantee a corporate victory every time; and so in every western democracy, the masses are forced to choose between the lesser of two detested candidates that are essentially full of shit and always turn their backs on the people to serve their corporatist masters after they gain office.

The political situation is a game of charades, a social tragedy that afflicts every western democracy today. Decades past when corporate rule hadn’t gained a foothold on political power, peoples’ representatives were elected that served the people – today you are only able to read about it in history books and you think choosing between a turd and a vomit is democracy in action, LOL – you deserve what you get for allowing yourselves to be conned so easily.

Now there is a very simple cure, though it requires legislation to be realised and that is, if any candidate/party backflips on promises or is unable to fulfil pledges made before the election then the people should have the right to eject these liars from office without the need to mount a violent revolution. Now imagine if the threat of ejection hung over the heads of our duplicitous lying mainstream politicians and the interests that place them in power, Mr Murdoch; all the money and lies would come to nothing and soon, faced with ejection integrity would return to politics and representative democracy would be restored. There are simple solutions for all social ills and problems, however, the current contorted system suits the powers that be and so little in the way of sensible change occurs.

Voting today is not a celebration of democratic freedom, it’s a chore because it’s the same ol’ shit; people have become weary and disillusioned – two party politics has well passed its use-by date, it simply no longer works – plain to see. Those that lead us today are reprehensible liars and deplorable characters fit for jail not public office, the lowest possible types of human – a ‘fine’ state of affairs. So WE must change the system or at least RESTORE real representative DEMOCRACY. And it is easily done.
