Didn't we know that Abbott's imbecilic image-boosting strategy would backfire in his stupid face.

Tony Abbott's war of words with the Kremlin has apparently deepened with Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev calling on his Australian counterpart to tone down his comments in the interests of productive relations.

The call came after Mr Abbott shattered the normally cautious diplomatic discourse between nations on Monday by promising to "shirt-front" Russian President Vladimir Putin when he arrives in Australia in November for the G20 economic meeting.

The bold statement of intent gave official voice to Australian outrage at the shooting down of Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 in Ukraine, with the loss of almost 300 lives - 38 from Australia.

It provoked a fierce response in Moscow, including editorials in state-run media slamming the Australian Prime Minister as ignorant and uncouth.

Direct comments from the highest level of the government however [have] been largely absent until now.

Speaking to America's CNBC network today, the mild-mannered Mr Medvedev strongly backed his President as the spat between Canberra and Moscow over MH17 continued to make news bulletins around the world.

"If he [Mr Abbott] likes to use sports terms, let him go ahead," Mr Medvedev told the American business channel in Russian translated to English.

"Mr Putin is quite adept at sports and they could have forceful debates. That said, serious politicians should choose their words carefully."

Mr Abbott has since wound back his rhetoric, promising instead to hold a "very robust conversation" with Mr Putin, whom he has accused of a level of complicity in the aircraft disaster because the pro-Moscow rebels who shot it down [conjecture, as culpability is as yet officially undetermined but truth should never stand in the way of Washington propaganda!] had used Russia-supplied equipment.

Mr Abbott has defended his words, declaring them "the very least I can do, speaking for Australia's dead and speaking for the families of Australia's dead and indeed speaking for the world's victims" [Notwithstanding the millions of innocent civilians murdered by the USA in its perpetual war of illegal resource theft over the past decade.]

Late today, Mr Putin's spokesman was also reported to have commented on the matter, branding the "shirt-front" threat "unfortunate".

"We are sorry about these unfortunate statements," Dmitry Peskov reportedly told Australia's ABC.

Mr Abbott told Australian media he fully expected Mr Putin to seek and be present for direct talks while attending the G20.

"Well, look, he is coming to our country as part of the G20. He is obviously a guest of Australia and I would certainly expect the President of Russia to meet the Prime Minister of Australia while he is in Australia.

"As you know, I will be having a very robust discussion with him about the 38 innocent Australians who were murdered by Russian-backed rebels [again conjecture, or Washington misinformation at worst] using Russian supplied equipment," [the initial Dutch report suggests the aircraft was shot down from the air by the repeated fire/impact of 'high velocity objects'] Mr Abbott said.

And in a pointed reference to Mr Putin as "my friend", he said the Russian leader would be housed at a luxurious hotel while in Australia.

"Well, look, my friend will be staying in a fine hotel, I'm sure. I'm sure that will be a comfort to him after the robust conversations that he will have."

[Editorial note:
Pretender Oz PM Abbott (who gained office by fraudulent means) is a widely known Washington lackey in Australia and is running with the Washington propaganda line regarding culpability, which remains officially unknown/unproven to date. These premature destructive and foolish accusations are entirely baseless but are to be expected from US journalistic sources and Washington lackeys -- the available evidence clearly suggests otherwise.]
