It seems every hacker in the world today is a member of 'Anonymous,' and who should we thank for creating that group almost overnight - LOL! It's called a backfire u CIA-NSA dunces, cos now the whole world hacks under that banner, including Russia and China -- fools rush in to a 'space' they don't fully understand. But it's very REAL and out of control now and you failed to net the 'Uber hackers' u were after; what a damn shame, however, u have created a monster in the attempt, great work - LMAO!

ASIO will wield its cyber warfare powers to try to hunt down those responsible for hacking into and dismantling the spy agency's public website yesterday.

The activist hacker movement Anonymous has claimed responsibility for the brazen attack, in which the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation's website went down for about 30 minutes early yesterday.

The Attorney-General's Department website was dismantled briefly the previous evening.

The Australian branch of Anonymous used its Twitter account to brag about the attacks and warn that Australia's most hi-tech spy agency, the Defence Signals Directorate, would be next.

Anonymous has stepped up its activities in Australia during the past month in protest at proposed national security laws that could force internet service providers to retain customer data for two years.

Yesterday's attack on the ASIO website, and the threat by Anonymous to target other spy agencies, were designed to attract further attention to its cause. ASIO denied that the cyber attack succeeded in tapping any national secrets, saying its public website did not contain any classified information.

Anonymous is a loose global network of hackers that is opposed to internet censorship and surveillance, but also pursues a grab-bag of other issues from wealth distribution to religion.

As part of its protest against the proposed security laws, Anonymous last month hacked into and leaked a massive cache of sensitive data stolen from internet service provider AAPT.

“We believe that the entire universe of people’s information should be indexed through search… this includes both public information and at the same time your personal information – such as a shipment confirmation in your Gmail and then there is the social information which people have shared with their friends and family,” he tells me.
